Dear Wilson School Families,
Welcome back to Wilson School! I hope that all of you have had a pleasant summer and took some time for rest and relaxation. I am looking forward to a great 2015-16 school year. I would like to welcome those who are new to our Wilson School family and hope that you feel at home here. We have many support systems in place to help you acclimate to your new environment if needed. Our wonderful faculty members, support staff and Mrs. Sproviero, our secretary, are great resources and are always here to assist in any way. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance.
We are very proud to announce a new member to our faculty and staff; Miss Victoria Santos who will be joining the 3rd grade team along with Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Tucci. I know that you join me in welcoming her into our school community. We are thrilled to have them as part of our family. Due to a change of classroom assignments, Ms. Nichols has joined the 5th Grade Team, Miss Blauvelt has joined the 4th Grade Team, Mrs. Tucci has joined the 3rd Grade Team and Mrs. Guido has joined the 1st Grade Team. Due to the change of enrollment a section of 4th Grade has been closed.
As we continue with the implementation of the Common Core Standards and PARCC Testing preparation across the curriculum, we will strive to prepare our students to be innovative problem solvers who are capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st Century. A child's home is the primary environment of learning and development therefore, your support, trust, and understanding are important components to a successful school, year. Together, teachers, students, and parents/guardians make a strong Wilson School family. We appreciate your support as your child enters the classroom, learns, and grows through the year. Let's all commit to have a good school year, setting everyone, students, as well as teachers, up for success.
Throughout the year I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning ones. I encourage families to get to know each other so that we can build new friendships and support each other as the need arises. You will have a great opportunity to meet new people and see old friends at the Annual Fall Scholastic Book Fair which will run on September 29th, 30th, October 1st, (Back to School Night) and October 2nd. Please check the PTO link on our web page for further fundraising events encouraging parents/guardians, teachers, and students an opportunity to relax and spent time together outside of the classroom setting while raising money for our school. And don't forget to join the PTO! Our first meeting is will take place during the month of September. We welcome your ideas and support in providing positive learning experiences for all of our students.
This summer a major project was completed at Wilson School to enhance the safety of our children. Our new student drop off area and faculty parking procedure will be in effect for September 2, 2015. Students may continue to be dropped off on Liberty Street, however, the entrance area has been changed to further down Liberty Street. Adhering to the 45 second drop off rule is crucial and will allow for a steady flow of cars during this process. Faculty members will now enter through the Prospect Street entrance providing a secure parking area free of student and parent activity.
I extend heartfelt gratitude to our teachers who spent many hours decorating and organizing their classrooms before school opened and to our office staff who have done many behind the scenes organizational tasks. I also thank our maintenance staff for all their hard work cleaning and preparing the building for a new school year. You have all done a marvelous job and our school could not function without you.

In August letters will be sent home notifying students of their classroom assignments. Be assured that when class placements are made, they reflect our best judgment of individual and group needs. Your child and every child at Wilson School has received full consideration in determining her/his class placement. Therefore, we cannot disregard this process and reconstitute classes based on parent requests. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated.
For those of you making the journey to the Thomas Jefferson Middle School next year, best of luck and have fun! For those returning to Wilson School classes, we cannot wait for the new adventures that lay ahead of us!
Pre-K and Kindergarten Orientations will take place on the first day of school. Information will be mailed home in August along with class assignment letters.
I look forward to a rewarding year!
