Season’s Greeting, Wilson School Families,
As a parent of two young school-age children, life is a blur! I’m sure many of you parents feel the same way. As the holiday season approaches I hope you share my goal of taking a breath, being appreciative, and having some meaningful time with family. In education we are thankful for the opportunities to impact young lives. Our students are the reason we are here. Their learning and progress is our school’s mission.
At Wilson we have much to be thankful for. We first thank our PTO parents. Not only do they raise money to support our educational programs but they also help in so many ways on a daily basis. In the last few weeks they have successfully organized our annual Frosty and Santa photos, our Holiday Gift Shop which will take place on December 15th – 17th, and a very special performance of “A Christmas Carole” by TheaterWorks Productions held on November 16th. They are always lending a helping hand to faculty, students, and staff, by volunteering in various ways. At every level, when we need something, there are parents willing to step up and fill the need. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate all that you do. You are wonderful!!
A big thank you must also be extended to our outstanding faculty members. They volunteer so much of their time supporting our school’s vision for excellence in education. I am constantly amazed by teachers who are going above and beyond their regular teaching duties to provide our children with positive educational experiences. I am tremendously proud of all they manage to accomplish each and every day. You are truly amazing!!
When we come back refreshed from Winter Break in January our focus will be on academics as we buckle down in preparation for the PARCC testing. As you know, last year Wilson School successfully completed the first official PARCC test in grades 3, 4 & 5 and we were pleasantly surprised by the ease of the transition. Our students never cease to impress us. For more information on the PARCC testing, example questions, and practice tests you may visit the Department of Education website at www.state.nj.us/education.
Many students are also eager to participate in the Principal’s Weekend Study Island Challenges. Rest assure they will begin the second week in January.
Now that our unpredictable winter weather is here to stay, please make sure that your child comes to school dressed for the conditions. Students will continue to line up outside in the morning and on warmer days go out for Physical Education and recess as long as it isn’t raining. Our students need recess and Physical Education and they enjoy it very much.
Lastly, as we enter this season of giving, think hard about your gifts to your children. The greatest gift—the gift that keeps on giving—is education.

In August letters will be sent home notifying students of their classroom assignments. Be assured that when class placements are made, they reflect our best judgment of individual and group needs. Your child and every child at Wilson School has received full consideration in determining her/his class placement. Therefore, we cannot disregard this process and reconstitute classes based on parent requests. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated.
