Welcome back to Wilson School! I hope that all of you have had a pleasant summer and took some time for rest and relaxation. I am looking forward to a great 2014-15 school year. I would like to welcome those who are new to our Wilson School family and hope that you feel at home here. We have many support systems in place to help you acclimate to your new environment if needed. Our wonderful faculty members, support staff and Mrs. Sproviero, our secretary, are great resources and are always here to assist in any way. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance.
This year our faculty and staff will remain the same as last year. However, due to a change in enrollment, Mrs. Cardinale, formely Miss Acquafredda's, First Grade Class has been closed. She has been asked to join our Kindergarten Team with Mrs. DeMarco and Ms. DiLella successfully leading our little ones on new adventures this school year.
As we continue with the implementation of the Common Core Standards across the curriculum, we will strive to prepare our students to be innovative problem solvers who are capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st Century. A child's home is the primary environment of learning and development therefore, your support, trust, and understanding are important components to a successful school, year. Together, teachers, students, and parents/guardians make a strong Wilson School family. We appreciate your support as your child enters the classroom, learns, and grows through the year. Let's all commit to have a good school year, setting everyone, students, as well as teachers, up for success.
Throughout the year I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning ones. I encourage families to get to know each other so that we can build new friendships and support each other as the need arises. You will have a great opportunity to meet new people and see old friends at the Annual Fall Scholastic Book Fair which will run from September 30th, - October 3rd, and especially on October 2nd at Back to School Night. Please check the PTO link on our web page for further information. And don't forget to join the PTO! Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:30 pm. We welcome your ideas and support in providing positive learning experiences for all of our students.
Last summer Wilson School underwent a big change. To further ensure safety at Wilson School a card swipe entry system is now in effect. Exterior doors will be locked at all times allowing entrance only to employees with swipe cards and visitors who are buzzed by the office. All visitors are required to leave a photo id at the main office before visitation can begin. Thank you for your cooperation.
In June, 2014 our computer lab received 35 new desktops to ensure a smooth transition to NJ PARCC Testing for students in grade 3-5. In May, with the help of the Wilson School PTO and $1,000 grant from Plymouth Rock Teacher's Insurance, Wilson School purchased 10 iPads and a station charger. This installation is yet another component of the technology integration at Wilson School. Presently every classroom at Wilson School is now capable of streamlining the use of technology throughout your child's day.
Over the summer our gymnasium underwent a dramatic facelift. After many successful winter concerts and kindergarten graduations our stage has received a makeover. The original stage has been replaced with beautiful new hardwood flooring and brand new accessories. We look forward to your visit on Back to School Night.
I extend heartfelt gratitude to our teachers who spent many hours decorating and organizing their classrooms before school opened and to our office staff who have done many behind the scenes organizational tasks. I also thank our maintenance staff for all their hard work cleaning and preparing the building for a new school year. You have all done a marvelous job and our school could not function without you.
As a quick reminder, school reopens on Wednesday, September 3rd. The first day of school is a 1:05 pm dismissal and therefore, BREAKFAST OR LUNCH WILL NOT BE SERVED. Regular school hours and cafeteria services will resume in Thursday, September 4th 2012. Both schedules are as follows:

All students should line up on the playground no earlier than 8:30 am as this is when supervision is available. In case of inclement weather, K-5 students may assemble in the Multi-Purpose Room no earlier at 8:30 am. A.M. Pre-K students may assemble in the lobby located to the left of the stairwell.
